Newbie questions regarding Blue and ferrit antennas
Posted by: sebihepp - 2015-07-14, 11:37 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (3)

Hello,

I am interested in this project and plan to participate in the near future. I have only 2 Problems: I don't have much money and I have no place for big antennas. I even don't have a solder device or tools.

Therfore my 3 questions:
- How much will project blue costs?
- Will Blue support those ferrit rods from http://www.sfericsempfang.de ?
- Do I need to solder or need tools for project Blue?

Best regards
Sebi

Site crashes both FF and Chrome
Posted by: Baer - 2015-07-11, 23:19 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (1)

I have noticed , in the last couple days, that when I switch to another tab, in FF, Memory usage spikes and FF stops responding. I thorough it was because of the latest update to FF so I tried the website in chome. In chrome, its fine when its in its own window but as soon as you add another tap to that window , the website crashes and you get the ' Whoops looks like the page has crashed. retry" . I have confirmed this behavior on two other machines and aI have also talk . social media, to friends , the I have recommended the site too, they have reported the same behavior with FF and Chrome.

  Lightningmaps.org Radar Europe
Posted by: Gerhard.Wittevee - 2015-07-09, 12:08 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (2)

Hi all,

I found this radar online; http://www.radareu.cz
This radar covers most of Europe. Since the Radar is only working for the US, this could be a great additional layer for Lightningmaps!
Don't know about the legal / copyright stuff, but this data is available online.
It would be nice to have this available! Hope Tobi has some spare time...

Exclamation Strikes not showing after Firefox 39 update.
Posted by: Irish_Steve - 2015-07-07, 21:53 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (14)

A heads up for anyone using Firefox, there's an update being offered at the moment to version 39.

Be aware that it may break the real time strike update on the site, and it's due ( I think) to a change made in the way that Java is being used by Mozilla.

I have got it working again by updating the security settings in Java to allow the site as an exception, which seems to have restored the update capability.

To update this, go to control panel, then Java, then the security tag, add the site to the exceptions, and allow the warning that it's not https, and then it should all be working again.

Hope this helps some of the users

Steve

  Blitztag aufzeichnen
Posted by: hfo - 2015-07-07, 19:05 - Forum: Non-English - Replies (6)

  Launch of System Blue delayed
Posted by: Egon - 2015-07-07, 15:08 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (80)

The launch of System Blue is shifted. Due to various problems mainly concerning the workload of the developers, we can not realize the detector within the promised time span. In order to work more relaxed, we do not announce a new date at which the system will be available.

The original intention was to offer a partially configured system in the middle of this year. This announcement probably was made too enthusiastic. In addition to the development of the circuits, the production of an assembled boards, and the test of the new detectors there are further tasks we have to manage. This concerns also the way how to distribute such a system in the future, because we are not a company.

Further news about System Blue will be published on our website soon. Questions about the continuation of distributing System Red boards can be discussed in the forum.

I would like to remember that Blitzortung.org primarily is a community of interests consisting of voluntary persons who are particularly engaged in the technical realization of lightning detectors. That means, each participant should always be able to build certain parts by itself, should understand the functioning, and should be able to adjust the station with respect to its local environment. This will also be necessary for all future systems and is very important for the antenna system. The coming detecting systems also will not be a plug & play system.

Thank you for your understanding.

  strange station statistic data
Posted by: hazet - 2015-07-06, 13:46 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (5)

Hi!
Just observed strange data in the station statistic data:
1. powered off my station ~ at 2015-07-06 13:25 UTC
2. Station statistic showing "Last detected stroke: 2015-07-06 13:31:07 UTC"
Question: How ist "last detected stroke" to be interpreted? How the station can "detect (and communicate)" a stroke if it is powered off? My station nr is 1355.
Cheers
Hans

Question System Blue availability?
Posted by: NorthObserver - 2015-07-06, 10:04 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (13)

Greetings,

As the summer 2015 thunderstorm season is roaring in good progress..just wanted to ask
what is the current status of System Blue -production? I for one would have two possible locations
to cover, one with fiber, one with 4G connectivity. When we can expect the next generation boards and
with what price?

Not able to zoom in as much as before
Posted by: calvinphelps - 2015-07-05, 19:41 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (4)

Zoomed in to 200 m

Only able to zoom in to 2 k

I used to be able to zoom in to 200 m per unit. Now I can only zoom in to 2 k per unit. This issue happens on both my laptop and iPhone so I don't think it's an issue with my devices. Has anyone else noticed this problem? Does anyone have a solution? I liked to be able to view the strikes that were basically in my front yard. Now I just see the area around me.

Thanks.

Want to purchase a System Red
Posted by: thatflookguy - 2015-07-05, 17:00 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - No Replies

Looking for anyone who is looking to sell their kit.. There dont seem to be any local stations to me near Glos/Chelt/Ledbury/Malvern.. The closest 2 are inactive so I thoght I would host a full time station here on the farm.

Let me know if you have some gear to sell or anyone who would be willing to put a kit together.
Thanks, Lee.
