I am new to this community and posting for the first time in this forum. Can't wait to complete the assembly of my System Blue kit and begin contributing to this global network.

However I haven't been able to find any information related to the best practice of antenna placement and installation location (Let me know if it's my fault).

Is there any best practice or installation position to avoid for both the E-field and H-field antennas? 

The Antenna Documentation does say "It should be placed high and far away from electrical installations" but can community members please share how high and how far you positioned your antenna? 

By the way, I live in a very dense urban neighbourhood (Hong Kong) and I would appreciate if you could share your experience, if any, installing your hardware in such undesirable settings.

Our blitzortung network is picking up lightning around the eyewall of the hurricane. As we all know, lightning in hurricanes is uncommon, except for in intense hurricanes. The storm just hit 180 mph sustained winds and over 220 mph gusts. This is scary situation for the Bahamas. All unprotected living beings will suffer the wrath of this dangerous hurricane. I hope for the best for them all. 
I live in Jupiter, Florida, which is about 100 miles west of the Bahamas. We still have the possibility of a hit, even though the models have it turning north, the warning cone still has us in our area. 
I’m going to have to take down my electrical probe from the roof, but I will be keeping the magnetic field up.

Brand new System Blue just received. I parted the PCB boards and filed the nubs when L104 fell off. C605, right next to L104, has a cracked joint and tombstoned up when I touched it.

How should I proceed? I don't mind trying to rework board but all I have is lead-based solder. Is this indicative of faulty board which will continue to give me trouble?

Hi All,

I would like to know what kind of CAT5 cable I should use between the H-Field pre-amplifier board and the mainboard. Is it a crossover cable or straight through cable?

Running the Real Time Lightning Map on the home computer - NOT a smartphone - how do you change the "home" location of the blue dot indicator? It has me registered at an incorrect town and I would like to have it show closer to my home. Thanks for any help, Danny.

On the map, when you click on the "antenna" symbol, the instructions say

Quote:Shows stations on the map. Higher levels also show currently participarting stations (purple), offline ones and station names.

• black -- vestigial stations. Example: Sunspot, New Mexico. Such stations show up on the map, but not in station status listings such as http://en.blitzortung.org/station_list.php
  
• red -- dysfunctional stations. Example: station 2572 (Buckeye, Arizona). Such stations have produced few if any valid signals recently.
  
  
• blue -- interference stations. Example: station 1042 (Mesa, Arizona).

I can't read those posts that are moved etc. Where did it go wrong with my subscription? Can only see the public part of the forum. I'm station 2588 and like to read the fine-tune details etc.

Is the server software capable of using data from vttoga, part of vlfrx-tools? Setting up a system (triple-axis VLF receivers) is not very easy for the beginner, but is it possible to use data from vttoga for those who use vlfrx-tools?

Is it possible to see if you can detect strokes in other regions?  I am interested to see how far away my station will pick up strikes but I assume I'm limited to North and South America.  However I very often see lines going from strikes in North America going to the middle of Europe.  If this is something I could turn on or test, I would really like to try it.  Thank you in advance for and advice.
