Hi,

As new member i can not send PM. I am a new user living in an area that schuld could be enhanced. I have read a lot about all projects. Someone sell "half-ready" pcbConfused. Is there someone out there who are willing to selling my something working, or part to build. I'm expired when it come to build electronics, but it's easier if i have something to start with. I have read about system Blue, System Red and pcb ver 21 , ver 22 etc..  Undecided

Please hit me.. if you have something interesting.

Thanks !

Could this table be used as a rough reference for calculating the distance?
Posted by: kidcollective - 2024-07-05, 07:51 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - No Replies

Hi! Im working on a hobby project to calculate the rough distance of what the sound of thunder travels depending on the peakcurrent. In rough terms, could this table be used for making rough calculations if we consider optimal conditions or is there a peak distance that the sound can travel regardless the peakcurrent?

- Peak Current: 0-10 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 2-4 km
- Peak Current: 10-20 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 4-6 km
- Peak Current: 20-30 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 6-8 km
- Peak Current: 30-40 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 8-10 km
- Peak Current: 40-50 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 10-12 km
- Peak Current: 50-60 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 12-14 km
- Peak Current: 60-70 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 14-16 km
- Peak Current: 70-80 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 16-18 km
- Peak Current: 80-90 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 18-20 km
- Peak Current: 90-100 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 20-22 km
- Peak Current: 100-110 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 22-24 km
- Peak Current: 110-120 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 24-26 km
- Peak Current: 120-130 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 26-28 km
- Peak Current: 130-140 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 28-30 km
- Peak Current: 140-150 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 30-32 km
- Peak Current: 150-160 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 32-34 km
- Peak Current: 160-170 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 34-36 km
- Peak Current: 170-180 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 36-38 km
- Peak Current: 180-190 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 38-40 km
- Peak Current: 190-200 kA, Maximum Audible Distance: 40-42 km

  lightningmaps.org/realtime

Hi,

I wanted to ask if there is a problem with the website in combination with Chromium-based browsers (for example Chrome or Brave (without ad blocker)). On these browsers, the screen with the live map remains white on cell phones, Windows or Linux. The problem has been occurring since the middle of last week. Microsoft Edge or Firefox work perfectly. Many THANKS, Andi

Firmware 10 on System Red PCB 10.5 - firmware bug ???
Posted by: mmlightning - 2024-06-24, 16:47 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - No Replies

Hello,

I installed the new firmware on my PCB 10.5 controller for System red. The PCB was manufactured according to schematic and Eagle-File:https://docs.lightningmaps.org/files/hardware/red/PCB_10_5.brd

The firmware did not work properly as the PCB-ID was not detectected correctly. It turned out that PCB 10.5 has a different coding then described.

Description according to the hardware reference in TablePCB Controller Ids:
 https://docs.lightningmaps.org/hardware/...system-red

Id PCB System PD10 PD11 PD3 PD1 Offset
2 10.5   RED      -        +        -       -      0

but it turned out that actually Coding of PCB 10.4 and PCB 10.5 is different, PCB10.5 has the following coding:
Id PCB System PD10 PD11 PD3 PD1 Offset
? 10.5  RED      +        +        -       -       0

this can also be seen in the schematic of PCB 10.5,  so PD10 has a high level +5V  instead of GND like PCB 10.4.

I did cut off pin PD10 from the controller-board and now all is working; PCB 10.5 is detected as PCB10.4 now

... but it seems that there is a firmware bug in 10 RED ???? This potentially could affect several stations, as station list has decreased since new firmware is out

  Map active Stations Blitzortung Europe
Posted by: patoffgrid - 2024-06-22, 14:35 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (2)

Hello everyone,
I'm Patrick from France and I've made an interactive map of Blitzortung Stations active for Europe.
https://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/map/sta....815/3.450
With this link you have the map, on the map each country has its color, a click on a station opens a popup with the station number and statistics in blue, a click on statistics opens the state web page of the station.
To view the list of countries and Stations, click on Browse Data at the bottom or on the left panel. This map is updated manually, if you are a new active station and you are not on the map leave me a private message.
I wish you a happy navigation in all colors.

Best regards

Patrick Lightning

About the lightning location accuracy of blitzortung.org
Posted by: kazu - 2024-06-20, 22:33 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (6)

If I purchase the BLUE SYSTEM and join blitzortung.org, what would be the lightning detection accuracy within a 10 km radius from the location where the device is installed? I imagine that the more detectors there are near the desired measurement location, the higher the accuracy will be.

Are there any hams on this sub who are involved with the lightning project
Posted by: hermanjackson - 2024-06-19, 07:05 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (3)

I continually monitor BLITZORTUNG.ORG because lightning in Utah can pop up very strong and very quickly in the summer. My question is: are there any hams that are involved with this system to receive and report lightning strikes, anywhere in the world. Is the board difficult to populate, and does it require any surface mount components? What about the receiving antenna...I see a lot of variations and wonder which type has shown the best success. My QTH is only two miles west of the Wasatch Front...part of the Rocky Mountains. I'm at 4400 feet and the mountains go to about 7500 feet, so there is the possibility that I might not be able to "see" lightning to the east of me. Thanks for any advice or ideas.

What Is The Best GPS Antenna/Unit in 2024
Posted by: SchwabTh - 2024-06-15, 16:37 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (5)

I am running System BLUE 19.3 with firmware 10.0b3 in North America in Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A.

What is the top performing GPS Antenna/Unit currently available to interface with the Blitzortung servers?

I currently have a Mediatek GPS antenna with a male connector. See attachment.

I am willing to "upgrade" if it will be worthwhile.

Also what are optimal settings for satellite types (GPS, GLONASS, etc) & baud rate others have used?

Thank you.
