power company installed new meter, poor detection since
Posted by: genewitch - 2023-03-13, 05:43 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (6)

my power company installed a new meter about 8 days ago, and since then my channel C signal has gone haywire most of the time, and occasionally other channels.

It sounds like very fast Morse code on the system blue piezo speaker. It happens a couple of times per hour, usually around the 35 minute mark.

I am going to open a communication to the power company tomorrow, in hopes either the old meter style or a manual read meter is appropriate

I happen to think that my lightning detection aids the power company, so it should at least be symbiotic, rather than adversarial;

whatever, though, right? "must accept noise"

What Sensor is Best Suited for My Needs?
Posted by: BlitzortungFan - 2023-03-12, 18:41 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - No Replies

Hello Blitzortung community,
I am seeking advice on which lightning detection sensor would be best suited for my needs, taking into account the following criteria in order of importance:

1. Accuracy - I require a lightning detection sensor that can provide precise strike data.
2. Real-time detection - It is important that the sensor detects strikes as soon as possible.
3. Sensitivity - As I am in a flat region surrounded by mountains, I need a lightning detection sensor with high sensitivity to detect strikes from a distance.
4. Mountainous surroundings - The sensor should be capable of detecting strikes in mountainous surroundings. Coverage - I would like the sensor to have good coverage of the area, even in difficult terrain.
5. Other important factors - Any other important factors that I should consider when selecting a lightning detection sensor.

If you have experience with lightning detection sensors in Europe, particularly in flat regions with mountainous surroundings, or have any other insights or recommendations to share, please let me know. Thank you in advance for your help!

  Powering Blue Board
Posted by: lostinignorance - 2023-01-07, 20:49 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (7)

I am looking for ideas on the feasibility of possibly of powering the system blue.

POE powered:
Use a POE to USB adapter (Something like PoE Splitter with MicroUSB Plug)

Solar with super caps
Use more super caps, but concept is there (Something like 5v Solar Power Supply)

Can anyone lend some incite into how they have been powering their devices outside of the basic USB plug?

Smile How to register/2nd owner
Posted by: rutrut - 2022-12-30, 17:19 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (6)

Hello,

I just bought a used system blue.  System is online and working properly, but shows old owners info.  In reading, to create a new account for myself, I need to use my email as the username and device ID as the password when trying to login for the first time?  One problem arose when I discovered that I do not have a device ID listed on the status page.  I also tried the link on the status page (tracker.blitz......) and get a 404 error from the site.  According to the documentation, I should see a button on the top of the controller page as well to get an account.  It is not there.

Can someone point me in the direction to the process of getting this re-registered?

Thank You

  Max Cable Length
Posted by: rutrut - 2022-12-26, 15:13 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (1)

Hello,
What would be the max cable length that could be used between a ferrite antenna and the reciever? Would like to mount antenna as remote as possible to alleviate noise.
Thank You

Any plug and play systems available?
Posted by: DeBruynB - 2022-12-06, 14:39 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (3)

I had an operational system years ago, but since I moved in 2015 I failed to get it working again. It was also needed to have it hooked up to a pc 24/7. But I want to contribute again with a system that is stand-alone (blue system can do this I think?). But I'm a literal 0 at electronics, so I'm wondering if there is any plug and play systems available or someone who assemble these things for a price?

Thanks! Smile

Best regards from Belgium.
