LightningMaps.org having issues?
#1
LightningMaps.org seems a bit flaky today, it's not showing any signals and there's gaps appearing in the graphs. Seems to be affecting more than one region too (I checked Oceanic and Europe). Is this a known bug? Thanks Smile

The problem is not directly related to LightningMaps. Since two days there are sporadic minor connection problems between the servers. Maybe a DoS attack in the same network segment...

It looks like maybe there is something else also. Reviewing the java console as indicated in the error message on the page, I find the following messages.

Google Maps API warning: RetiredVersion https://developers.google.com/maps/docum...ed-version"util.js:221:12
This site has exceeded its daily quota for maps. If you are the creator of this site, please visit the <a href="https://developers.google.com/maps/faq#usagelimits?utm_referrer=v3" target="_blank">documentation</a> to learn more.

Google Maps now requires an API key to use it. The free period ended yesterday, October 12th. Anyone who uses Google Maps must have a key now.

The problem is known. It's not the API key. Unfortunately it can take up to a week until there's a solution from Google. We might also switch to other map services, like OpenStreetmap. But this will take some longer time.

Hi,

I am getting the same problem since yesterday evening. You might be able to register a new key if it has expired. If it just the number of page loads then Google might want you to buy a key.

The error message is pretty clear, the site is over its daily quota and yes I expect Google will want money to up the quota. Having said that Google can be very fair and supportative of non-commercial, non-profit organisations.

Maps are working for me on my (private) installation of MyLightningDetection version: 1.4-dev6. I jumped through the google hoops to get an API key a few days ago. Straight forward instructions for that are in post in these forums, somewhere.
Cheers
Dave.

Hi All, Is this problem back, I seem to have had a frozen map and no data since this morning I have tried looking at other stations stat pages and they all drop off at the same time.
The Meteomelin graphs are also not updating.
Maybe it is a European server problem, the other regions still seem to be showing activity.
I have not experienced this before so I am not really sure.
I apologise in advance if it is just something that I am not doing correctly.
Cheers,

Er, there was no lightning to speak of in Europe... that's not beacuse the blizortung region 1 servers are down, it because there really was no lightning. I checked several other sites using different data sources, they didn't have any lightning either.
Cheers
Dave.

O.K Dave I got the same reply when I emailed Egon. I am still receiving strokes at an ample rate and at good strength.
Therefore, if there is no lightning in Europe why are all these and 6 pages more of stations sending so many signals to the servers.

http://en.blitzortung.org/station_list.php?&region_country=Europe&stations_users=0&sort_column=signals&sort_order=desc&limit_rows=100

And 8+ pages more!
Having slept on it, there is still a problem with Blitzortung since yesterday at about 10 o'clock in the morning. Maybe, Someone tripped over the cable and pulled the plug?

These attachments are from my station, but I have checked many other stations and they are all the same.

Also, having slept on it, even if there is lightning at Europe it is not at a very high level!
So! WHY are all these stations sending so many signals to the server?

http://en.blitzortung.org/station_list.p...t_rows=100

And 8+ pages more.

Kindest regards,

It has been confirmed that there was a malfunction on the European server. This is now working again.
Thank you to all concerned.
Some of those stations however still need to look at their settings and stop swamping the server with garbage!
