Interesting strikes in Canada where there's no storm!
Posted by: khartley - 2016-08-23, 22:59 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

Hi All,
Was watching the maps and saw some interesting strikes over Winnipeg Manitoba Canada today. There was no storm or lightning activity within 500+ km but there were a few "strikes" at 11:29, 11:34, and 11:39 AM CST. (16h zulu) 10 Stations recorded it.

Has anyone else seen anything like this where stations registered strikes with no lightning activity? Perhaps powerlines being inspected and arcing? would anything else cause a series of signals like this?

Thanks,
Keith

Welches Netzteil für BLUE? Welche GPS-Antenne?
Posted by: robo - 2016-08-18, 15:01 - Forum: Non-English - Replies (4)

Hallo zusammen,

  what does preferentially mean?
Posted by: boergefischer - 2016-08-16, 16:27 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (3)

When I re-enter my e-mail address to query my rank I get this: "Your request is ranked at position 955 of 1243"
But at the end it also says: "Your request will be treated preferentially, since you have allread submitted your email before July 5. 2016."

Can anybody explain what this mean?
Do I get treated ahead of the normal queue (of 1243 persons)?
And if that is the case, what is my real rank?

I no longer recall when I entered my e-mail address for the first time (before the ranking was introduced), but I do have a e-mail reply from Egon dated 10. August 2014 explaining that systems are sold out.
So after trying to order a system two years ago, I'm now number 955 in the queue?

Hallo,

  Station maintainance
Posted by: guidoco - 2016-07-24, 20:53 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (3)

The strikes seem to be pretty accurate except for 2 local stations that I have never seen reister a strike. Station # 1163 in Redmond and station # 1238 in Port Townsend are both close enough to pick up strong lightning in Seattle, Everett, and Marysville. We have had several strong lightning storms in the area with jothing showing locally.

Thanks for any info on why strikes on the West of the mountains don't show op.

  long term statistics possible?
Posted by: dlen - 2016-07-23, 17:05 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (2)

Hi,

IMO it would be interesting to be able to answer statistical questions like

How many lightning happened per year in this and this region (europe, germany, france, northern america......)?

With this, one could look if there's a trend, which could be attributed to climate change.

Does such a possibility exist?

greetings - Dominik
