Thank you... I read that thread, but lost it and couldn't find it again. The ribbon cable thing is intriguing to me having worked with it a LOT a couple decades ago when coming up with workable designs for round IDE cables WELL in excess of the then 18-24" max length standard.
Question though.... Why should the ribbon cable conductors have to run perpendicular to the the ferrite core? Seems to me that as long as they are ONLY terminated at one end, the shield isn't electrically shorted. The distance between conductors (maybe not the small pitch 80 conductor stuff) on 24 and 40 conductor IDE and floppy ribbon would be sufficent longitudinal slits on par with the gap in the copper wrap shield design...
Probably will choose whichever turns out to be cheapest and presents the smalllest flat plate wind load. The 38 foot mast is getting pretty well populated up top.
10-15mm spacing surely does help reduce the wind loading for the overall housing...
