Multiple Listed Erroneous Regions
#1
My user is 671 and my station is 1723 in Rochester, Minnesota, USA

In the "station list" option my station is listed in multiple REGIONS other than North America

Is it possible to limit the REGION to North America?

How do I correct the Regions?

Hi Tom ...
"Regions" 'is tricky' Confused .... and Egon is still 'perfecting them, so they may change once in awhile. There are valid reasons for the 'apparent' newer region assignments over the last few years... and there is nothing you can do yourself to change the assignments. (Although these upgrades HAVE caused Tobi real headaches keeping LightningMaps.org synced with all the fancy new Blitzortung Databases) They are basically a 'statistics' breakout in principle, and indicate how a station may support locating across the world.

You'd need to send an email directly to Egon,  (not 'PM') asking if he'd modify for you, but I personally would leave it as is. It's a good gauge of how 'valuable' we are at any given time, as well as network presentations and stroke data relating to a specifc station / region. (My 4 stations are 'scoring' on a total of, at last count, 25 regions, with "Africa 1 as an 'experimental'  https://frankfortweather.us/fwxBLPublic/...ml#rassign MOST of those extras are to support Atlantic Ocean coverage.) A 'region' may ALSO be 'used/involved' with totals only including THAT region's stations, and a separate another sub-region 'data' including ALL worldwide stations detection in that geographic.,.. whew... still evolving...

Those region assignments are arbitrarily set manually by Egon.... Your station 1723 has its data supporting both North American sub-regions (old region 3), all of the (old region 1) three regions in Europe, as well as the South America sub-region of the old region 3 "North America".  It's confusing, but for many of us with good track records, he likes to have us showing support in areas with low station density... for example, the 'European regions' for you, and I, and others, are LIKELY being used to support Atlantic mid-ocean coverage data, along with the North America 2 sub-region. Similar for the South America sub-listing.  These are for better 'statistics' as well as helping illustrate who's locating strikes that might be missed, or 'orphaned',  in the past.

Our stations ALL actually, normally, send to ONLY one "World Wide" 'collecting' and processing server in Germany,  ( "Signals" and "Valid" columns are 'world wide" numbers) and then are routed on to appropriate 'sub-servers' in Germany and Finland which 'separate' for logging data re: those supported 'areas'.  These "Sub-regions" ONLY reflect signals assigned to the area as "Involved" and "Used....  in a perfect world, with no packet or network delays, and no variation in server processing/ updating time, the "Signals" and "Valid" counts SHOULD be the same for all the listed 'regions',.,.. they rarely are. And As I add this 'update', I see they're REALLY out of whack,... must be issues in Europe... or Egon's messin' with 'em, even as I think I've got 'em partially 'figured out'.
 Dodgy

So, you're seeing North America 1, 2, and South America, displayed effectively as what used to be 'North America' inclusive. As well as the additional 'regions' which used to be Europe.

Hope things are well with you and yours!
Mike
