GPS died? - Snicker - 2014-08-01 The detector suddenly reported no GPS fix yesterday. "No valid 1PPS pulse" tried to warm restart the GPS, then Cold, then rebooot the card. Nothing. And when I got home I did the same. Still no GPS fix. And when I start the card, the green light on the GPS does not blink or light or nothing. (It blinked before until it got GPS fix, now, nothing) What could it be? Did the GPS chip die? What should I try next? RE: GPS died? - RichoAnd - 2014-08-01 Are you 100% sure it is soldered correctly - if not .... resoldering Removing: warm throughout one side a time and gently lift few mm Even for trained, it can be a challange to solder it correctly RE: GPS died? - Dottore - 2014-08-01 Welcome to the Club Snicker. I have an old system and my gps died a few weeks ago. But on the other side, it is not really dead. The PPS keeps going, but there is no fix. I can´t imagine whats wrong. greez dottore RE: GPS died? - Snicker - 2014-08-01 (2014-08-01, 07:28)RichoAnd Wrote: Are you 100% sure it is soldered correctly - if not .... resoldering I can try of course, but is seems very strange. Since it suddenly happened 2 days after init. Running fine all the time. And nothing moved or touched it when it when it suddenly stopped working. RE: GPS died? - Tobi - 2014-08-01 Please provide a log of the GPS. How was the reception before the module has died? The reception was excellent. I had 14 satellites in view on ext. antenna mounted on the rooftop. And very fast fix position. And no GPS errors. Now it gives me the GPS error a minute after boot. "No valid 1PPS pulse" no matter if the ext. antenna is connected or not. No green light next to the GPS chip. RE: GPS died? - Tobi - 2017-08-11 Did you solve the issue? If not, we need your station id. RE: GPS died? - Weather muurame - 2019-06-03 I have had same issue since feb 2018, not solved yet. Station 804 RE: GPS died? - readbueno - 2019-06-07 Hi All, I have a similar problem. This appears to be something to do with the GPS Antenna. The red GPS blinks without the antenna and with one antenna I get sat data, but no pps and with another diferent antenna, pps data, but no sat data. Apart from this the board appears to function correctly and it updated firmware with no problem. I would like to get active again, but without further information about why this is happening I can not just keep buying different GPS Antennas until I get one that works. Thank you in advance. Kindest regards, Brian.1856 Vilaboa. RE: GPS died? - mwaters - 2019-06-07 Brian, have you tried doing a factory reset? I'm fairly certain that you know about the proper placement of GPS antennas. That being said, where is your antenna? Could you move it? RE: GPS died? - readbueno - 2019-06-07 (2019-06-07, 14:46)readbueno Wrote: Hi All, I have a similar problem. Thanks Mike, Yes. I have tried resetting. The antennas were in the same place as the previous antenna and that worked ok. I thought it was the actual GPS module, but that seems to work normally as long as no external antenna is plugged in. It may be to do with the pre-amp in the antenna? Although it has 3.2 volts at the centre pin. Brian. RE: GPS died? - mwaters - 2019-06-07 The center pin of the RG-6 coax should have at least 4 or 5 volts on it. Maybe you need to shorten it. What is your voltage on the status page? That should be close to 5 VDC. Maybe you need to shorten it.Hi Again, The Coax on the GPS antenna is an unknown mini-coax and the output from the GPS module is only 3.2 volts. The power supply is adjustable and it is set just where the CPU voltage measures 3.25 volts this is, on this board, about 5.1 volts. The voltage at the e field pre-amp is the same more or less as the input voltage. The GPS Pre-amp says 3 to 5 volts working, but it is limited by the GPS module itself. What is more of interest is why something is causing the buffer over run, that does not permit both functions to happen at the same time? I have ordered the original cheapy eBay GPS antenna again, 3 weeks wait? As it did work until the landscaper weedwacked the cable! For the other two antennas that I got to replace that one, I went a little more up-market and neither of them appear to work? This would normally point to the problem being somewhere else, but as far as I can tell the board is not showing any errors, except when a GPS antenna is plugged in. Brian. 1856 Vilaboa P.S. I see I have lost the station details at the server too. I have not tried to re-assign until I get something that works. RE: GPS died? - Weather muurame - 2019-06-07 How does your pps signal looks like ? Mine is like this and not good. RE: GPS died? - mwaters - 2019-06-07 (2019-06-07, 15:19)readbueno Wrote: ...
