  Blitzortung System Red FOR SALE
Posted by: Stephen.Walker - 2014-10-04, 01:22 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (15)

Hi,

I am selling 1 of 2 Blitzortung System RED systems - either 874 or 966. These stations are currently running in Region2 - Oceania.

I have configured both the same way & both have the same antenna type.

The second unit was planned for a rural deployment which didn't eventuate.

I would prefer a Region2 / Oceania buyer, in order to add to the detection capability in the region.

Either reply or PM me if you are interested.

Regards,
Stephen

New station....not showing up on maps
Posted by: Geewizard - 2014-09-28, 20:25 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (8)

My station is new. It WAS showing up on the maps as being used for locations. Now, it is not.

Do I have to do anything or is it a server function (SNR, threshold, etc)?

Question Taptalk
Posted by: Benedict.Smith - 2014-09-26, 15:16 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (8)

Why every time I go to the Blitzortung.org forum do I now get a Lightning#$%*@Lightning Taptalk page that I have to dismiss before I can get to the forum?
I have zero interest in using Taptalk and DON'T want to be constantly asked to download it, to me this is SPAM of the worst type, how can I avoid it??? Is there a switch I can add to the URL so I get straight to the forum?
I am using an iPad with ios8.

  Odd socket in RED kit
Posted by: philip - 2014-09-23, 12:23 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (6)

I'm building the RED controller at the moment and I have come to putting the socket on the for the LCD. The kit includes two 10 position socket strips, but the board has holes for two 9 position socket strips.

I can easily clip off one of the pins to get it onto the board, but I thought that I would check first before doing that -- in case I am missing something obvious.

Also does the voltage regulator have to be screwed to the board?

Thanks

Philip

Missing Part or no longer needed? LF33CV for controller board

Is this part no longer needed or just missing from my RED controller kit?

You need more detectors in SoCal US
Posted by: whichwayisnorth - 2014-09-16, 22:32 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (6)

Here I am sitting at my computer in Southern California 92883 and we are experiencing a very heavy thunder/lightning storm. My first though? Blitzortung.org!! I wanted to watch and hear it ping off every strike.

The problem is that while I've seen about 50 lightning strikes in the last hour, the website doesn't show them. Maybe two? Two out of 50? I assume the issue is lack of reliable detectors in my area. I'd be happy to help out if needed.

Map Overlay position error? - NSW AU Oceania
Posted by: Stephen.Walker - 2014-09-16, 21:44 - Forum: Website, Maps and Applications - Replies (17)

Hello,

I have noticed on the live maps display for New South Wales - Oceania, there appears to be a position eror of around 200km.
I have referenced two stations of known location to illustrate the apparent error.

I know the position error also seems to apply to the Albury station - as the Albury station should be close to the NSW/VIC border.

I can't reference the New Zealand stations - although their detections are shown on the "New South Wales" map, the stations are of fthe map.

regards,
Stephen

  Report: Oscillating server settings
Posted by: b.e.wilson - 2014-09-11, 14:23 - Forum: Hardware, Software, Lightning Physics - Replies (2)

Two days ago I noticed there was a lot of beeping from the controller. It seems that the settings for the controller/amplifier were oscillating between:
State 1: high gain/low threshold = very sensitive; gain was typically above 4000
State 2: low gain/high threshold = very insensitive
The controller would send 300+ samples a second to the server, go into Interference 1 or Interference 2 mode, then switch state and "go deaf" for a while, before reverting to the first state. I ended up going manual to stabilize it. Station 1155.

  Indicated strikes
Posted by: Me not Thor - 2014-09-11, 02:55 - Forum: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Hello,
I stumbled upon this site late last spring, since having always been fascinated by lightning I am hooked.
Sorry to say I am a viewer, not a contributor. Maybe some day I can.
I have a question I hope can be answered. I didn't see anything closely related to my question in the forum.
So here goes; last night (9th) we had many strikes with the flashes to the north of me but only two or three registered on the map. In the past I have seen real time action being indicated but not last night. I am in the Twin Cities metro area of St.Paul/Mpls in Minnesota, USA. At the time there was much action in southern Iowa and northern Missouri. The one detector in Minnesota was indicating those but none to the north of me or anywhere close.
Can anyone explain why that happens?

Thanks,
Me not Thor
