I just came across this thread and reduced the minimum required character length to 2. Additionally, I've added a link to the advanced search function in the header.

If a migration is to be considered, best is to find a software that is maintained. SMF seems to be dormant since 2023. It never was a fast evolving forum but it seems almost abandonware.

It seems they are developing on a new major release (see https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF). MyBB also seems to work on a new minor 1.9 release.

Also what modifications we have now should be retained in the new forum ?  Is it worth all the hassle to pull it over ?
