The answer is pretty simple, several servers went up in smoke with the datahouse hosting them. Read the announcement here.

It is a slow process rebuilding it.

So, the archived data on LightningMaps.org will at least be eventually restored?

I don't see any data before 2021-03-20, about ten days after the data loss, so I suspect anything prior is well lost.
It's unfortunate. I was looking for lightning strike data from California during August of 2020, to see the exact locations where the fires were started.
