we would like to inform you of an important security incident.
The forum has been the target of a cyberattack. Based on current information, unauthorized third parties have gained access to emails and stored password hashes. We also can not rule out that the attackers had read access to the Blitzortung.org station data.
What you should do now:
- For security measures all forum passwords have been deleted. You need to use the "Lost password" feature to get a new password via email.
- Use a new, secure password that you do not already use on other websites or services. If you have used the same password for other accounts, please change it there as well.
- Change your password on Blitzortung.org as well.
- Be particularly vigilant in the coming weeks regarding suspicious emails or messages asking you to enter your login credentials.
Protecting your data is our top priority. The following steps have been made:
- The forum has been completely reinstalled on a new system.
- Forum passwords have been deleted.
- The automatic login on this forum for Blitzortung members has been disabled.
- Implementation of additional security measures
- Logs and backups have been archived for possible further investigation by us and/or authorities.
The attack was likely due to a past security issue in the MyBB forum software. From logs and backups we could see that the attacker already had access for a long time.
We deeply regret this incident and apologize for any inconvenience caused. If you have any questions or need assistance changing your password, please feel free to contact us.
