Data for Research or Links to Similar Research

Hi all, 

I'm not sure if I am correct in my understanding, but is raw data access available to contributors or certain research projects? 

Wondering if our research would be applicable or if it has be done: we are a team in Canada hoping to stop/extinguish lightning caused fires. Hoping to create lightning ignition risk maps by combining observed lightning strikes and observed fires/burned area.
